Ernest John Barnes Medal Ribbon:

The medal ribbon of Ernest John Barnes (my grandfather), the 1914/15 trio from the 1st World War, the Defence Medal from the Second World War and his Police Long Service medal. Ernest John Barnes became a Special Constable on the 15th September 1939.

The one thing that is noticeable about the medal ribbons for the 1st World War is that they 'shimmer' in the light, even though the watered silk of the ribbons is slightly discoloured with age, there is a movement of colour when the ribbons are tilted back and forth. No such shimmer is seen on the World War 2 ribbons.
