The medal card of John Edward Barnes shows that he was in the
Private G/4495 of the Royal Sussex Regiment He was entitled to the Victory Medal, the British Medal and the 15 Star.
The theatre of
war first served in is (1) France and he arrived in France on the 29th
September 1915. His first experience at the front line may have been in
the Battle of Loos. Also shown is that John deserted on the 10th June
1917 - this would be after some 20 months on the Western Front and after
fighting in the Battle of the Somme. His execution on the 4th July 1917
is also noted. |
