The medal card of William Edward Barnes shows that he was in the
Royal Berkshire Regiment (although it doesn't state the battalion), he
was a private and then a Lance Corporal with the service number 16369.
He was entitled to the Victory Medal, the British Medal and the 15 Star.
The S W B List entry shows that he was awarded the Silver War Badge -
William was wounded in 1916 in the Battle of the Somme. The theatre of
war first served in is (1) France and he arrived in France on the 28th
July 1915. The date of his discharge is not shown, just that he was
discharged. |
