Identity Card - Original 1947 Issue:
|
| Correct ! You have chosen the real 1947 issue identity card. The
other is a modern reproduction and being new has a lighter colour than
the sixty year old original. The card used in the reproduction is also
slightly lighter in weight but otherwise is a very good copy. Perhaps
with some ageing, the choice would be harder. |

| This identity card belongs to my mother and has survived these past
sixty years with out any damage. As it doesn't have any provision for a
photograph, or fingerprints or any physical detail of the holder you do
wonder just how useful these cards would have been to the authorities. |

| The identity card scheme, accepted during the war was not popular
after the war and eventually abolished by Winston Churchill in 1952. |
